The school originated from Jiangsu Suqian glass vocational school founded in 1933. In 2001, with the approval of Sichuan Provincial People's government, Sichuan building materials industry school, Mianyang Industrial school and Mianyang mechanical and electrical industry school were merged and upgraded to vocational and technical college. In 2015, some majors of Mianyang water conservancy and electric power school were merged into the school.
