Shanghai Maritime Vocational and technical college is an ordinary university approved by Shanghai municipal government, which is specialized in training high-level maritime technical talents. It is subordinate to COSCO (Group) Corporation, and its education business is directly led by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission. The college has a history of more than 50 years of vocational education. In 1986, it took the lead in piloting maritime vocational education. It is one of the colleges with the longest history of Higher Vocational and technical education in Shanghai. In 1998, the first group passed the certification of seafarer education and training quality system of the State Maritime Administration and reported to the international maritime organization. The college has developed into a higher vocational college with the functions of academic education, adult education, crew training and cadre training.
The college is located in Lujiazui financial and Trade Zone, Pudong, Shanghai, with a usable campus area of 268 Mu and a building area of 126650 m2. The college has complete teaching facilities and advanced equipment, including teaching building, experimental building, library, student dormitory building, outdoor playground, indoor gymnasium, swimming pool, etc; The college has three 20000 DWT ocean going teaching practice ships, and has the seafarer occupation open training center, international shipping public training center, navigation technology training center, marine engineering management training center, electronic and electrical basic training center, etc. Among them, it is equipped with large-scale ship handling simulator, marine engine simulator, simulation teaching ship, steering gear training room, GMDSS training room, LPG simulation training room, and unit China Norway advanced welding training center.
At present, the college has 320 teaching staff. Among the full-time teachers, 31% have graduate education, 73% have high and intermediate professional and technical positions, and 74% have "double qualification" teachers. The college offers 22 majors, including navigation technology, marine engineering technology, international shipping business management, container transportation management, logistics management, customs declaration and international freight transportation, and electrical automation technology, including one pilot major of higher vocational education reform of the Ministry of education, two pilot majors of higher vocational education reform in Shanghai, one national excellent course and two Shanghai excellent courses. There are 6000 students in all kinds of schools.
The Institute, jointly run by the Norwegian Shipowners Association, has introduced the education and training concepts of Norway and other maritime developed countries, and created the order type "sandwich" education mode of navigation in China to cultivate senior seafarers facing the European and American International seafarer labor market. The Institute has more than 110 training programs, including competency training, professional training and special training for seafarers recognized by China maritime administration. It trains nearly 10000 seafarers a year. It is one of the largest and most comprehensive training institutions for seafarer certificate training in domestic maritime colleges.
The college is the director unit of navigation professional education and Teaching Steering Committee of China Communications vocational education and Teaching Steering Committee; one of the construction units of Shanghai Model Higher Vocational Colleges; advanced unit of Shanghai Vocational Education and Ministry of communications; civilized unit of Shanghai.
