Hubei Academy of Fine Arts

Hubei Academy of fine arts is the highest Academy of Fine Arts in Central China. It is located in Wuhan, the central city on the Bank of the Yangtze River. It is now located at 374 Zhongshan Road, Wuchang (formerly Tanhualin). The predecessor of Hubei Academy of fine arts is private Wuchang art college, which was founded in 1920 by Mr. Jiang Lanpu, Mr. Tang Yijing and Mr. Xu Ziheng who had participated in the revolution of 1911. Over the past decades, our teachers and students have created a large number of excellent art works, participated in art exhibitions and design exhibitions at home and abroad, and won national gold and silver medals and other important awards for many times. Some works have been collected by Chinese and foreign art museums and museums, and a large number of monographs and art collections have been published. Through the efforts of several generations, Hubei Academy of fine arts has formed its own eclectic teaching characteristics and innovative artistic style. Our school has a large number of talents, and the students are all over the country. Some of them have become famous artists with profound academic attainments, and some of them have held leading positions in art education or professional departments. At present, our young and middle-aged teachers are strong, showing their talents in the teaching of cultivating art talents and the creation of prospering art career. There are 10 departments of Chinese painting, oil painting, mural, print, sculpture, design (decoration, industrial design), environmental art design, fashion design, fine arts and art education, Graduate Department, adult education department, secondary professional department (attached middle school) and Public Course Department. The college also has ceramic art research institute, Sculpture Research Institute and Environmental Art Research Institute, which undertake teaching, scientific research and social development of art. Design art and fine arts and fine arts are two major disciplines of provincial key disciplines, and design art has been identified as a provincial key discipline during the Tenth Five Year Plan period. The fine brushwork figure of Chinese painting department has been awarded the provincial excellent course. The Journal of Hubei Academy of fine arts, approved as a quarterly by the State Press and publication administration, has become an important window to reflect the situation of fine arts teaching and scientific research as well as the art trends at home and abroad. Our academic exchanges with foreign countries have become increasingly frequent. Experts and scholars from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Austria, Syria and other countries, as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, have visited and lectured successively, and many foreign and domestic professors have been employed. The college often invites famous experts and scholars at home and abroad to hold academic lectures, forming an artistic atmosphere suitable for students' quality education and training. At present, the Institute has carried out intercollegiate exchanges with Stuttgart Institute of design in Germany and Alfred Institute of design in the United States. Since 2000, the works of two graduates have been selected to participate in salon international art exhibition in France every year. The college has also sent teachers to study abroad, hold exhibitions and conduct academic exchanges, and further expand foreign exchanges in various forms. From Wuchang art college founded in 1920, through the changes of the times, to today's Hubei Academy of fine arts, in these long years, through the efforts of several generations of art educators and artists, the college has been growing, developing, and the conditions for running a school are becoming more and more perfect.
