Shantou vocational and technical college, approved by Guangdong Provincial People's government and sponsored by Shantou Municipal People's Government on March 29, 2002, is a full-time ordinary vocational college established on the basis of the former Shantou Institute of Education (including Shantou preschool normal school), Shantou commercial supply and marketing school, Shantou electromechanical school and Shantou teachers' training school.

The college covers an area of 632.4 mu. In March 2009, the municipal government granted 619.1 mu of land to the college for expansion, with a total area of 1251.5 mu. The college is composed of four campuses: the headquarters, Jinyuan campus, Xinjin campus and dongdun campus. The headquarters of the college is located at the foot of Donghu mountain in Haojiang District of Shantou City, with 436.4 mu of land and 1055.5 mu of land for expansion; Jinyuan campus is located at Jinyuan Road, Shantou City, the former site of Shantou Institute of education and Shantou preschool normal school, with an area of 56.1 Mu; Xinjin campus is located outside Longhu District, Shantou City, with an area of 115 mu; dongdun campus is located at No. 8 dangxiao Road, Shantou City, with an area of 24.5 mu 9 mu. The total construction area of the college is 235000 square meters, the total value of teaching and experimental practice equipment is about 40.34 million yuan, and the book collection is 803500.

At present, the college has 13156 full-time college and technical secondary school students. There are more than 2000 adult college students, joint undergraduate and graduate students. There are 710 teaching staff, including 107 with master's degree or above. In addition, the college also employs a group of business people and engineers with rich practical experience as part-time teachers.

The college is actively in line with international advanced education, and has signed a cooperative school running agreement with the University of hooverhampton in the UK and the University of barrarat in Australia. After three-year junior college students graduate, they can directly enter these two universities to study for bachelor's degree (one year), and can continue to study for master's degree and doctor's degree. At the same time, the college has also reached cooperation agreements with several famous universities in China to facilitate the college graduates to further their studies in China.
