Ningbo Vocational Education College was founded in December 1997. In April 2001, with the approval of Zhejiang Provincial People's government, Ningbo Dahongying vocational and technical college was established. In May 2002, it was officially established. In November 2003, it became one of the 35 colleges and universities that founded the national demonstrative software vocational and technical college. In June 2007, it successfully passed the talent training assessment of the Ministry of education; In April 2008, with the approval of the Ministry of education, it was upgraded to an undergraduate college and renamed Ningbo Dahongying college.

The school is located in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, a national famous historical and cultural city and a modern international port city. There are two campuses: the campus is located in Xueyuan Road, Ningbo City; Hangzhou Bay campus is located in Hangzhou Bay New District, Ningbo City, close to the south end of Hangzhou Bay Bridge. The campus covers an area of about 1587 mu, with a construction area of more than 640000 square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 95.26 million yuan, with a collection of more than 1.54 million paper books.
