[plant morphology] Alternanthera philoxeroides

Annual herbs. Stem slender, ascending or creeping, with two rows of white pilose, nodes densely pilose. Leaves opposite, elliptic lanceolate or lanceolate, 2-8 cm long, apex acute or obtuse, base gradually narrowed into short petiole, entire or middle wavy. Capitate inflorescence axillary, 0.5-1 cm long; each flower has bracts 5, lanceolate, dry membranous; flowers dense, perianth 5, white, dry membranous; stamens usually 3, sterile stamens triangular subulate, filament base combined into a cup; pistil 1, carpel 1, stigma capitate. Utricles obovate, slightly flat, with narrow wings on both sides. The flowering period is May. The fruiting period is July.

Born in tidal wetlands such as waterfront and farmland. It is distributed in central, East, South and southwest China.
