The body length is about 27 cm. The mouth is long, black at the end, brown at the base of the upper mouth and yellow at the base of the lower mouth. The iris is dark brown. The head is light reddish brown, white from the base of mouth to the eyes, with brown spots in it; the head and neck are white, with dark brown stripes in it; the eyes are dark brown first, with a little white spots. The upper body is grayish brown, the upper back and wings of the large, middle coverts and third-order flight feathers are light reddish brown, with dark brown longitudinal lines and transverse spots in the center of each feather; the lower back and waist are pure white; the primary flight feathers and primary coverts are dark brown, with white broad spots on the inner edge, white and mixed with black brown spots on the end; the small covert is grayish brown. The covert and tail feathers on the tail are white, and there are black brown transverse spots. The lower body is white, mixed with many dark brown longitudinal lines, few in the lower abdomen and perianal, and the longitudinal lines turn into transverse spots at the flank; there are dark brown feather dry lines and a few transverse spots at the end of the tail. The feet are orange red and the claws are black.
It lives on the coast, swamp, pond, estuary Delta and other places. Most of them are single activities, sometimes in pairs. Food for insects, molluscs in the Lamellibranchia and crustaceans, annelids, such as trichopoda. They breed in western Xinjiang, Gansu, southern Tibet and Qinghai; they are found in the southern coast of Northeast China, Hainan Island, Sichuan, Yunnan and other places; they overwinter in Guangdong and Taiwan.
