[English name] rhizomasmilacisglabrae

[source] this product is the dry rhizome of smilaxglabra Roxb. In summer and autumn, the fibrous roots are removed, washed and dried, or sliced and dried while fresh.

[character] the product is slightly cylindrical, slightly flat or irregular, nodular, with short branches, 5-22cm in length and 2-5cm in diameter. The surface is yellowish brown or grayish brown, uneven, with hard fibrous root residues, round bud marks at the top of branches, irregular cracks on some skin, and residual scaly leaves; the quality is hard. The section is oblong or irregular, 1-5mm thick, with irregular edges; the section is white to reddish brown, powdery, with punctate vascular bundles and most small bright spots; the quality is slightly tough, with dust flying when broken, and sticky and slippery after being wetted with water. Odorless, slightly sweet and astringent.

[function and indications] dehumidification, detoxification and joint benefit. It is used for limb contracture, muscle and bone pain caused by dampness, heat, drenching, leucorrhea, carbuncle, rash, scabies, syphilis and mercury poisoning.

1. Syphilis. With soil Poria cocos four Liang, Gleditsia seven, fried water instead of tea.

2. Bone contracture and carbuncle leakage (muscle and bone pain, ulceration into carbuncle, over the years, life-long become waste disease). With soil Poria cocos one or two, heat plus Huangling, Coptis, Qi deficiency plus Sijunzi Decoction, blood deficiency plus Siwu Decoction, decoction instead of tea. Another prescription: four liang of Smilax glabra, one or two of Siwu Decoction, seven pieces of Gleditsia sinensis, 49 pieces of Sichuan pepper, seven pieces of wick, fried water instead of tea.

3. The skin ulcers. Slice with Poria cocos, or grind it into powder, take it in water, or add it to porridge. It's better to eat more.
