Perennial herbs, 40-60 cm high. Rhizome cylindrical block, hard, dark brown, fibrous roots slender. The basal leaves are 1-3, with persistent scales at the base. The scales are densely covered with long white villi. The scales are pentagonal, 4.5-10 cm long and 6-18 cm wide, 3-lobed. The central lobe is rhombic, subppinnate, with coarse teeth on the margin, and the lateral lobes are 2-lobed unequally. The petiole is 14-37 cm long. Stems 23-42 cm high, glabrous or sparsely pubescent; involucre bracts 3, petiolate, leaflike, 8-14 cm long; flowers 1-3 clustered: sepals 5, white, obovate, 1-2 cm long, abaxially sparsely pubescent: without petals; stamens numerous, filamentous; carpels numerous, glabrous, free, style short. Achenes subovate, ca. 2. 5 mm, yellow. The flowering period is from May to June. The fruit period is from July to August.

It grows in the valley forest, or in the shade of the valley, on the stone and in the grass of the hillside slope in the high mountain area. It is distributed in Northwest Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou and Western Hubei.
