[plant morphology] Yunnan white pearl tree, also known as Yunnan white pearl tree.

Shrubs, about 3 m high. The branches are long and thin, green or red. Single leaf alternate, leathery, ovate oblong, or broad ovate, 7-8 cm long, 2.5-3 cm wide, apex pointed caudate, base heart-shaped or round, leaf margin with obtuse teeth, slightly rolled outward, dark green above, glabrous, bluish white below, with fine pilose. Raceme or panicle axillary, 5-7 cm long; flowers bluish white, sepals 5, margin ciliate; corolla pot shaped, lobes 5; stamens 10; ovary superior, smooth glabrous. Capsule globose, about 6 mm in diameter, 5-lobed, with persistent style on top, with enlarged fleshy calyx on the outside, purple red at maturity, like berry. The seeds are light yellow and small. The flowering period is September.

It grows on the grass slopes and the edge of the jungle. It is distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou and Guangxi.

[collection] harvest in summer and dry in the sun.

[medicinal material] the stem is about 35 cm long, multi branched, 3-5 mm in diameter, with yellowish brown surface, longitudinal striation and petiole scar. Most of the leaves fall off. Fresh, dry and green leaves are preferred.

Produced in Yunnan and Guizhou.

This product is used as Tougu grass in Yunnan and Guizhou. Please refer to "Tougu grass".

[chemical composition] the leaves contain 0.5-0.8% volatile oil. The main component is methyl salicylate.

[pharmacological action] oral administration of methyl salicylate has antipyretic, analgesic and anti rheumatic effects, which is similar to salicylic acid drugs and requires the same dose. However, due to the slow and irregular absorption of this product, it has a later effect. This product has strong irritation. It can be diluted with 1-2 parts olive oil for external use as an antistimulant. This product can also produce specific symptoms of salicylic acid poisoning, the toxic dose is about 2 / 3 of sodium salicylate.
