[plant morphology] Cymbidium tanguticum

Perennial herbs, 20-30 cm high. Rhizome short, with many fibrous roots, dark brown. Stem at the base of many branches, square, 4 longitudinal edges, the surface is green, purplish red, thin white pilose. Leaves opposite, shortly stipitate; leaves pinnately lobed, lobes linear lanceolate, green above, pink green below. Flowers terminal or whorled, axils arranged into spikes; bracts leaflike, much shorter than calyx tube; calyx tubular, 5-toothed, lobes lanceolate; corolla lip shaped, blue purple, upper lip arched and notched, lower lip 3-lobed, middle lobe notched or deeply split; stamens 4. Nutlets are smooth. The flowering period is from July to August.

Born on hillsides, streams, fields and other places. It is distributed in Qinghai, Gansu, Sichuan and Tibet.
