[plant morphology] shanxiaoju

Shrub, about 3 meters high. Twigs and buds are often brown and rusty tomentose. There are two kinds of leaves: single leaf and pinnate compound leaf. The single leaf is on the short stalk, pinnate compound leaf has 2-3 leaflets; the leaflets are oblong, 6-18 cm long and 2.5-5 cm wide, with transparent oil spots and entire margin. Panicle terminal or axillary, inflorescence axis brown rust pubescent; flowers white or light yellow; calyx 5, less than 1 mm long; petals 5, ca. 3 mm long; stamens 10, equal, inserted around disk; ovary with glandular pits. Berries globose, about 1 cm in diameter, orange red when ripe, translucent. The flowering period is summer and autumn.

It grows in shrub or sparse forest of low hills. Distributed in Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and other places.
