[collection] harvest from August to October, cut the aboveground parts or flower ears, and dry them in the sun; rub out the seeds, remove the impurities, and dry them in the sun.

[medicinal material] the dried seeds are oblate, the center is slightly thicker than the edge, the diameter is 1-1.5 mm, and the thickness is about 0.5 mm. The surface is smooth, black and glossy with a slightly concave navel on the side. The seed coat is thin and brittle, easy to break, white and slightly smelly inside. The yellow white shell is usually coated on the upper end of the seed in the commodity. The shell is cap like, and there is a filiform style at the top, about 4-5 mm long. The best color is black, bright and full. It is produced all over the country. The seed of Celosia cristata (Amaranthaceae) is used as Celosia argentea seed in many areas, and has a long history. They are similar in appearance, but the difference lies in: the style on the pericarp of cockscomb is about 0.2-0.3cm long, about 1 / 3 shorter than that of Celosia argentea; if observed by magnifying microscope, there are small pits on the surface of cockscomb, but Celosia argentea is not very significant.
