[plant morphology] Begonia esculenta

Perennial herbs. Rhizome transverse, nodal, scaly. The leaves are self rooted, shield shaped, oblong ovate, 7-12 cm long, 5-7 cm wide, apex caudate acuminate, base rounded, entire or undulate, purple below; petiole 5-15 cm long, red, glabrous. The stem is red, leafless, glabrous, longer than petiole; the flower is monoecious, dichotomous cyme, terminal; the male flower is light red, perianth 4, 2 large, ovoid, 1.5-1.8 cm long, 2 small, lanceolate, 6 mm long, stamens are numerous; the female flower has 2 round ovoid perianth, ovary 3-locular, 3 unequal wings, style 3.
