[plant morphology] Hibiscus syriacus (Erya), also known as Shun (the book of songs), Chaojun (Zhuangzi), Tilia, Jue (Erya), riji (Erya Guo Pu Zhu), fencao (renzhaizhizhifang), Hibiscus syriacus, Pingtiao tree, white peony, qingmingli, muguihua tree, cauliflower tree, Bianyan tree, Jinqi tree, baibuli.

Deciduous shrub or small tree, 3-6M high. The bark is grayish brown, glabrous, and the young staff has villi. Leaves alternate; rhomboid ovate or ovate, 4-7 cm long and 2.5-5 cm wide, with 3-lobed or undivided leaves of different depths; leaf base cuneate, margin with blunt or sharp teeth, 3 main veins distinct, sparsely stellate hairs on both sides, later becoming smooth; petiole 1-2 cm long, smooth or covered with villi or stellate hairs. Flowers solitary in leaf axils; bracteoles 6-7, linear, about half the length of calyx; sepals 5-lobed, ovate lanceolate, with stellate hairs and short soft hairs; petals 5, pale red, white or purple; stamens numerous, filaments united into a tube; ovary 5-locular, style 5-lobed, stigma capitate. Capsule oblong, apex with a pointed mouth, all tomentose. The seeds are dark brown with long brown hairs on the back. The flowering period is from June to July.

It is cultivated all over the country.
