Dry leaves are often wrinkled into a ball. Leaf blade ovate oblong, apex pointed, base inclined, entire; glabrous, surface gray green or yellow, with silver gray spots, back light yellow green, papery, old leaves leathery and slightly thick, 5 main veins, lateral veins reticulate. In vitro, the water extract and alcohol extract of leaves have obvious antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus albus, Escherichia coli, proteus, typhoid bacillus, Bacillus subtilis and some fungi. The volatile oil also has weak antibacterial effect. The antibacterial active ingredient may be trichosanthin.
