Jiang xizeng

Jiang xizeng (1899-1971), whose English name is H.T. Tsiang, is a poet, revolutionist, professional actor and Chinese American writer from Nantong, Jiangsu Province.

Qing Guangxu 25 years (1899) was born in Jiangsu Province TongZhou Zhili Qian town (now Nantong City, Jiangsu Province Tongzhou District ten general town) a poor family, once in 1922 National College English competition in one fell swoop to win. After leaning towards revolution, he joined the revolutionary government of Guangzhou. He witnessed the assassination of Mr. Liao Zhongkai and participated in the preparatory work for the funeral of Dr. Sun Yat Sen. In May 1926, after Chiang Kai Shek proposed the case of sorting out party affairs, he was persecuted and went to Stanford University in Los Angeles to study as a graduate student. At the same time, he served as the Chinese version of the Chinese youth morning post of the Overseas Department of the Kuomintang. Since then, he has participated in publishing the left leaning Chinese and English Weekly China guide. In 1927, because of his "propaganda of communism" in the United States, the Nanjing National Government issued a wanted warrant for him. He was arrested by the Immigration Department of the United States, and several of them were extradited back to China. Fortunately, the international labor protection association and the American Civil Liberties Union came forward to rescue him, and then he was released. After that, he went to Columbia University in New York to study, and became active in the literary and artistic circles. He was one of the first Chinese actors to enter the Hollywood film circle. In the early 1940s, he moved to Hollywood and became a professional film actor with superb acting skills. He once played roles in nearly 10 films. He died in Hollywood on July 16, 1971.

His works include epistolary novel "China Red", novel "Chufan" and three act drama "dead light". In February 3, 1978, the concert of the two songs of the Library of Congress, the National Library of China, was taken from the * * poems of the Chinese revolution.

Personal profile

Social evaluation

Jiang Xi, a left-wing social activist living in the United States, was once regarded as the first Chinese writer to write in English in the United States. The unique position of Asian Americans in American literature and culture cannot be ignored. Experts in the history of American modern revolutionary culture pointed out that when studying the history of Sino US cultural exchange, Jiang xizeng was "a figure that can not be ignored", praised him as "one of the pioneers of American Chinese Literature" and "the first left-wing writer of American Chinese Literature".

The collection of a large number of Jiang xizeng's works and letters fills a number of academic gaps and provides a new reference for the study of contemporary literature and the study of Sino US cultural exchanges. A large number of correspondence in these files disclosed the process of several American people rescuing Jiang xizeng from Alice island after he was detained by USCIS.
