Ci Ming

Tzu Ming Seng

He was born in 1904 in Gaoyou County, Jiangsu Province. At the age of six, he went into Puti temple in Gaoyou County alone. Because his mother refused, he went back to live in Puti temple for three years. After three years, he returned to Puti temple and begged Zen master Qingdu to become a monk. His name was Ciming. In 1934, master Ciming received a full commandment at longchanglu temple in Baohua mountain, Longtan, Nanjing. In 1937, he came to study under the name of old monk Guo from Gaosi temple, Yangzhou. In 1981, he returned to Jiuhua Mountain, Anhui Province. Ping lived in the Youming Bell Pavilion on the East Cliff, and he kept knocking the bell and chanting Buddhism every day. In 1986, he turned to Jiuhua Mountain for meditation, strictly abiding by the commandments and often holding a shovel. On November 26, 1990, he confessed his affairs and left a verse: "it's like not changing to forget yourself and to abstain from living things. True hold also put down, who live sigh empty also. He was 86 years old. His disciples installed a jar to keep his body. On the eighth day of the fourth month of the Buddha Bathing Festival in the year of Yihai in the lunar calendar, he opened the jar and sat upright. So he was worshipped in the underground Buddhist temple on the north side of Jiuhua Mountain.

He was born in 1904. On the day of his birth, the house was full of strange fragrance and the clouds of the Dharma were misty. After three days, he gradually dispersed. His Dharma name was Ciming. In 1934, he received a full commandment at longchanglu temple in Baohuashan, Longtan, Nanjing. In 1937, he lived in Yangzhou In the past ten years, he devoted himself to studying Zen Buddhism. One year, Guazhou Town, Hanjiang County, Jiangsu Province organized people to build water conservancy projects. Ciming carried 800 Jin of soil at a time, and Guazhou town presented him with a prize flag. The flag was embroidered with the word "eight hundred jin" and was given a special mulberry pole. Since then, he has the nickname "eight hundred jin". In 1981, he returned to Jiuhua Mountain and lived alone in the Youming Bell Pavilion on the East Cliff. He banged the bell and chanted Buddhism every day. In 1986, he went to Jiuhua mountain Zen hall for meditation, strictly abiding by the commandments and often holding a shovel. In October 1990, when Ciming predicted that he would return to the west, he preached that monk Degui, the great disciple of Xingjiao monk, came to the mountain from Qimen. On November 26, he explained his future affairs to his beloved disciple and left a verse: "it is like no change to forget yourself and give up life. If you really hold it down, you will feel empty. He returned to the West with a smile. His life was 86 years old. His disciples installed a jar to keep his body. This man is the monk, Ciming, who never leaves his stick. He was very tall and practiced Shaolin martial arts since he was a child. When he participated in water conservancy construction in Jiangsu Province in his early years, he once carried 800 Jin of soil with a shoulder pole and was nicknamed "800 Jin". In 1981, CI Ming took the initiative to ring the bell at Motianling. Maybe it was the words in the Sutra that aroused his enthusiasm.

On January 11, 1991, monk Ciming passed away. Three years after his death, people opened the earthenware jar, but found him sitting in the jar, his hair, beard and eyebrows were not shed, and his body was as good as ever, as if he had just passed away.
