Wu Daorong

Wu Daorong (1852-1936) was born in Panyu, Guangdong Province. It was originally named Guozhen, with the name of Yuchen and Danan. In the sixth year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu, he was a Jinshi, who taught editing, and then ended up giving lectures. After the revolution of 1911, he wrote behind closed doors and regarded himself as an old man. His works include tombstone of quweng mountain.

Life of the characters

When he was young, he studied in Guangzhou. Later, he transferred to YingYuan Academy. Under the guidance of Li Wentian, the lecturer of the Academy, he made great progress in his studies. In the first year of Guangxu (1875), he became a Jinshi in the sixth year of Guangxu. After 12 years, he was given editing. At this time, Li Wentian was also called to Beijing to work in the South study, with Wu Daorong as the recording room. The two teachers and students have worked together for many years, and Wu Daorong has gained great achievements under the guidance of his teachers. However, he was tired of his official career and liked to educate his postgraduates, so he resigned and returned to his hometown. When he returned to Guangzhou, he invited his classmate Chao de Fen to set up a large school in Guangfu Academy. At that time, students from all over the world came to study, and he became a great master admired by scholars. Many academies in Guangdong tried to employ him as a lecturer. He has lectured at chuijiang Academy in Sanshui, Fenghu Academy in Huizhou, Jinshan Academy in Chaozhou and Hanshan Academy. Later, he returned to Guangzhou to preside over YingYuan academy and served as the head of xuehaitang. In 1894, CEN Chunxuan, the governor of Guangdong Province, changed the two schools into Guangdong colleges and universities, and appointed him to preside over the academic administration as the premier (equivalent to the president), bringing up a lot of talents for Guangdong. His students Wang Zhaoyong, Wang Zhaoquan, etc. later became celebrities. Wu Daorong once majored in the continuation of Panyu county and wrote poems of dan'an, Wen'an and Yuefu of Ming Dynasty, all of which have been published. Wu Daorong also made great achievements in his calligraphy. In 1929, he wrote quwengshan tombstone in Xiaokai of Jin and Tang Dynasties, which was highly appraised by calligraphers.

Characters and deeds

Wu Daorong (1853-1935), a great scholar, was born in Panyu, Guangdong Province. In the sixth year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu, he joined the Imperial Academy with his fellow countryman Liang dingfen as a Jinshi. He left the Imperial Academy to teach editing. He left his post in middle age and returned to Guangdong. He never came back to be an official again. Since then, he has been "a scholar and a lecturer". He has successively lectured on Chaozhou Hanshan academy, Jinshan academy, Huizhou Fenghu academy, Guangzhou YingYuan academy, etc., and set up a school in the county with Shi defen, with tens of thousands of scholars. Later, he served as the head of Sijiang academy and Xuehai school in Sanshui County, presided over Guangdong University and Guangdong higher school, supervised them for eight years, so as to link up the new and old schools and make all students sincerely serve. He was also the counsellor of the Ministry and the speaker of Guangdong Academic Affairs office. In his later years, he was indifferent to fame and wealth, and refused all honors. He was not invited by the Provincial Bureau of local chronicles and xuehaitang. He wrote behind closed doors. He made a living with the word "Xi", but he still specialized in the local literature. After 20 years, he wrote a lot. He is the author of dan'an Wencun, dan'an Shicun, Ming history Yuefu, and majored in Panyu county annals, and selected 240 volumes of Guangdong Wenzheng. Wu Daorong was an influential old calligrapher at that time. When he was young, he joined YingYuan academy, studied from Li Wentian, and became a disciple of Li Wentian. Li Wentian entered zhinanzhai, and Wu family was his recording room. Wu was deeply influenced by Li academically, and calligraphy was no exception. It seems to be directly related to Li Wentian's inheritance. In his "postscript to Li Wencheng's teacher's visit to Liquan", he recalled: "Yu bingxu (1886) left the library and studied calligraphy in his predecessor Li Wencheng's residence. When I went out of the capital, I gave it to Li Quan with my teacher's name. I once paid the stone seal and got the treasure It is characterized by the combination of words and strokes, the concentration of spirit, and the fineness of hair. Others are too proud to be able to reach. I still remember that when I was living in my former residence, every time I was on duty, I did not take off my clothes. After I finished my book, I unfolded the paper and recited the European book. I was tired of writing. It's not only about superb skills, it's also about energy. " It can be seen from the above comments that Wu Daorong '. After he left the library, he studied calligraphy at Li Wentian's home. Under Li's careful guidance, he studied Ouyang Xun's Jiu Cheng Gong Li Quan in the early Tang Dynasty, and got his strong style of writing. Li's precious rubbings of Han, Wei, Sui and Tang dynasties can also be found in Taihua building. His vision is wide and his calligraphy attainments are getting deeper. In his later years, he changed his study of the epitaph of Madame Xiao Jixing, a Sui Dynasty stone tablet. Although Li Wentian didn't achieve his strong and strict style, he didn't follow and imitate blindly. Based on the study of calligraphy and the implication of Sui stele, he formed a vigorous and solemn style. Although Wu's calligraphy was influenced by the style of Guange, it was unique among the old people and had a great influence on Lingnan. He was known as "four masters of Lingnan" together with Chen Rong, GUI Di and ye gongchuo at that time. Although Wu Daorong is famous for his calligraphy, his calligraphy is still mostly in regular script. I see two works of his later years collected by Guangzhou Art Museum: one is running script, with the signature of "Yao Sheng, brother ya, belongs to Wu Daorong". The characters are mostly drawn from the calligraphy of Liu Gongquan and Yan Zhenqing. The bones are tough and straight, and the strokes are round and square. The other is a couplet with eight characters in regular script: "when it snows fast, it's sunny, you want to be kind, you can enjoy the wind and you can enjoy your eyes.". The first couplet is "Junmin" and the second couplet is "Wu Daorong". The couplet is mostly drawn from the epitaph of Mrs. Xiao Jixing, which is a Sui Dynasty stone tablet. The style of the couplet is nearly flat, and the style is almost consistent with the epitaph of Mrs. Xiao Jixing. This couplet is the representative work of Wu in his later years.
