Bai Xiaoyan incident

Dai Zhongren's most impressive experience is that during the murder of Bai Xiaoyan in 1997, Chen Jinxing, the last unknown bandit, broke into the residence of McGill Alexander, the military attache of the South African Embassy in China, and seized the family. Dai Zhongren found out the telephone number of the residence and connected with Chen Jinxing on the spot as the director of the interview center of the Information Department of Taiwan television visit. Afterwards, some people criticized that Dai's visit to Chen Jinxing repeatedly referred to him as "you", and the telephone interview was broadcast to the whole country, which violated journalistic ethics. At the same time, some people praised Dai's journalistic specialty, language level and courage. After that, Dai became the anchor of Taiwan TV. Dai Zhongren recalled the incident, saying: "little is known about it." After the end of the day (broadcast), a senior executive in the television press, who is also our colleague, called me. In addition to saluting me, he said: "in fact, it was a wrong decision for the media to follow up at that time. If it did not go through a more professional performance, it would highlight the weakness of the press."
