Mu Zong of Qing Dynasty

Tongzhi

Tongzhi is the title of Aixinjueluo Zaichun, the tenth emperor of the Qing Dynasty and the eighth emperor after the Qing army entered the pass. It has been used for 13 years. It began to be used on January 30, 1862 (the first day of the first month of the first year of Tongzhi) until the death of emperor Tongzhi on January 12, 1875 (the fifth day of December of the thirteenth year of Tongzhi).

Emperor Tongzhi was the son of Empress Dowager Cixi yehenala and Emperor Wenzong Xianfeng of Qing Dynasty. After Empress Dowager Cixi United empress dowager Ci'an and Prince Gong Yixin to launch the Xinyou coup, Empress Dowager Cixi adopted the memorial of Zhou Zupei, a bachelor, to abolish the "Qixiang" year name proposed by the eight former ministers and replace it with the "Tongzhi" year name proposed by Zhou Zupei, a bachelor. "Tongzhi" means that the empress dowagers of the two palaces are in the same court, or that the empress dowagers of the two palaces are in the same court together with the ministers (Tongzhi also means Shunzhi). Empress Dowager Cixi was very happy to hear that. She issued an edict to take the second year as the first year of Tongzhi, and ordered to stop casting "Qixiang" coins and change them to "Tongzhi" coins.

Therefore, "Qixiang" was not really used in history.

As for the content of Tongzhi emperor in Qing Dynasty, see Tongzhi emperor in detail. This entry only introduces the year number.

The reigning emperor

Zaichun, the first son of emperor Xianfeng, died unnamed after he was born. So Zaichun became the only legal successor to the throne. When Emperor Tongzhi ascended the throne, he was only six years old and was assisted by eight ministers, including Zaiyuan, Duanhua and SUSHUN. In this year, Zaichun's biological mother, Empress Dowager Cixi, was dissatisfied with the power of the eight ministers. Together with empress dowager Ci'an of Donggong and Prince Gong Yixin, she conspired to launch the Xinyou coup. While escorting emperor Zigong of Xianfeng back to Beijing, Ci'an, Cixi and the little emperor arrived first, took Prince Gong's advice, executed Zaiyuan, Duanhua and SUSHUN, and dismissed or garrisoned the other five, In the second year, it was officially used.
