Paul Verlaine

Paul Verlaine (1844-1896) is a French poet. He was the early leader of the symbolism faction. Symbolists try to separate poetry from traditional themes and forms.

Life of the characters

Veron's poetry is famous for its elegance, delicacy and musicality. Born in Metz, he was deeply influenced by young poet Arthur Rambo when he was in Paris in 1871. After separated from his wife, he and Rambo lived a bohemian life and became drunkards. In 1873, he was shot and wounded in a quarrel with Rambo, so he was sentenced to two years in prison.
