Zhang Wenhu

Zhang Wenhu (1808-1885) was born in Zhoupu, Nanhui (now Pudong, Shanghai), and was recommended by Zhu Sheng. Zhang Wenhu was quiet and modest. He was frank and sincere to his friends. Because his family was poor, he relied on his friends to help him learn. When he was an adult, he left home and went to Jinshan Qian's house. 30 years. In 1883, he was invited by Jiangsu Xuezheng Huang tifang to become the first president of Nanjing Academy.

Study phonology

Jiang Youhao, a phonologist of Qing Dynasty in Shexian County, Anhui Province? The ten books of phonology by Dai Zhen (1723-1777), Qian Daxin (1728-1804) and other scholars in Qing Dynasty highly praised Dai Zhen and regarded him as "the origin of learning". Because Zhang Wenhu is diligent and studious, he has read a lot, and his learning skills are getting better and better. he read the commentaries of scholars in Tang and Song Dynasties, and made a comprehensive understanding of them. He briefly wrote down his own experience, which made him a member of Zhang's family and respected by people. The school "shoushange series", a total of 18 kinds, 60 volumes. "Small wanjuan Lou series" and many other books are known as rare books in the world. Zhang Wenhu is also proficient in astronomy and mathematics. In 1871 (the tenth year of Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty), Zhang Wenhu served as an aide to Zeng Guofan (1817-1872). At that time, Zeng Guoquan, Zeng Guofan's younger brother, ordered him to participate in the supervision of Wang Chuanshan's posthumous in Anqing school journal. The next year, Li Hongzhang, the leader of the Westernization Movement, took charge of Liangjiang and hired Zhang Wenhu to take part in the management of Jiangnan official publishing house. The next year, Wu Tang, the governor of Shu, hired Zhang to attend the lecture of Zunjing Academy in Chuanzhong. Zhang eventually gave up his thanks for his long journey and his old illness. In 1883, he became the first president of Nanjing Academy, and wrote the records of Nanjing Academy. In his later years, Zhang Wenhu also compiled Huating, Fengxian and Nanhui county annals of Guangxu. In the first month of 1885 (the 11th year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty), Zhang Wenhu died in the restoration garden of Songjiang Prefecture.

When Li Hongzhang was governor of Liangjiang, he and Zhou Xuegang managed Jiangnan official publishing house.
