Li Oufan

Li Oufan (October 10, 1942 -), male, is an internationally renowned scholar of cultural studies, famous professor, writer and cultural commentator. He is now a chair professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, an honorary professor of Harvard University, an academician of Academia Sinica, a founding member of the Hong Kong Institute of humanities, and an honorary doctor of Humanities of the Hong Kong University of science and technology.

Born in Taikang, Henan Province, Li Oufan graduated from the Department of foreign languages of Taiwan University. During that time, he and his classmates Bai Xianyong founded modern literature magazine. Later, he studied the history of Chinese thought at Harvard University in the United States, and was awarded a doctor's degree under the guidance of Schwartz and Fei Zhengqing.

Li Oufan's main research fields include modern literature and cultural studies, modern novels and Chinese films. His essays and comments are commonly seen in Asia Weekly, Xinbao, Mingbao monthly and aim.

Early experience

Leo Ou fan Lee, born in Henan, moved to Taiwan with his family. He graduated from Hsinchu middle school and Taiwan University. In 1961, he went to the United States to study international relations at the University of Chicago, and then transferred to Harvard University, specializing in modern Chinese ideological history and literature. He received a master's degree in 1964 and a doctor's degree in 1970. He has taught at Princeton University (1972-1976), Indiana University (1976-1982), University of Chicago (1982-1990), University of California, Los Angeles (1990-1994) and Harvard University (1994-2004). In 2004, Professor Li retired early from Harvard University and went to the Chinese University of Hong Kong to continue his academic research, cultural criticism and Chinese English works. At present, he is Professor Rong Xiu of Harvard University, Chair Professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, honorary senior researcher of the Institute of Chinese culture, and honorary professor of the school of Humanities and social sciences of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen).

Li Oufan was the son-in-law of Nie Hualing, a famous female writer, with his classmates Bai Xianyong, Chen Ruoxi and Wang Wenxing.

Professor Li Oufan is a famous scholar with outstanding reputation at home and abroad. He is a representative figure in the study of modern Chinese literature in the United States. He is also one of the few heavyweight scholars in the field of Sinology in the United States. He has published nearly 20 works in Chinese and English, such as the Romantic generation of modern Chinese writers, the cry in the iron house, the other side of the West tide, after romance, the wandering thoughts of Chinese and Western literature, the pursuit of modernity, Shanghai modern, fox cave discourse, dialogue with Li ou Fan Ji Jin, etc., as well as the novel fan Liuyuan's Confessions, the story of Li Ou Fan Ji Jin, etc The eastern hunter.

family life

Both Li's and Zhou's parents graduated from central music university. In his book my music past, he said: "music is the love of my life after all. Without music, I can't live or write." my daily life is also filled with music: the first thing in the morning is to turn on the record player to listen to music.

He married Lan Lan Wang, the daughter of famous writer Nie Hualing, but ended up in divorce. In September 2000, he married Deng Wenzheng's ex-wife Li Yuying. Bai Xianyong once wrote the love between Li Oufan and Li Yuying, describing their strange acquaintance and experience of marriage. Li Oufan and his wife combined their love experience into a book called "living a normal life". Li Oufan called his wife "yingniang" in his book.

Social honor

Professor Li Oufan has won Wang An Research Prize (1985), Guggenheim Fellowship (1986) and honorary doctor of Humanities (2001) of Hong Kong University of science and technology. He was elected as a member of the 24th Academia Sinica in 2002.

In 2015, Professor Li Oufan was selected as the writer of the year of the 26th Hong Kong Book Fair.

Li Oufan as "the other"

Reading is like taking the subway. You have to pass by one station after another before you reach the destination. For me, Li Oufan is also a website. The old friend green tea, who was once infatuated with Li Oufan and had never met him, sent the novel fan Liuyuan confessions. She left a message on the Internet to find the book and asked for the address to send it to her. She gave back a set of genuine CDs of Huang Lei. Back and forth through a few e-mails, they will be mixed up in the vast "Internet sea".
