In the winter of the sixth year of Jingyao (263), Wei took Deng AI's army to jinzhuguan. Liu Chan accepted Qiao Zhou's suggestion and prepared to surrender before Wei's army attacked. Liu Chen said angrily, "when the country is at a dead end, there will naturally be a disaster of national subjugation. At this time, it should be the father and son, the king and his ministers who make the last effort together to die for the country of Shuhan, so that we can also see the former Emperor!" Liu Chan didn't listen and still surrendered to Deng AI.
Liu Chen felt very painful and indignant for the demise of his country, so he came to the zhaolie temple where Liu Bei was sacrificed to cry bitterly, then killed his wife and son first, and then committed suicide.
