The Taiwanese military will initiate M1A2T tank replacement training
Regarding future training plans, the Taiwanese military stated on the 16th that they are currently in the process of handing over each tank to the US side one by one. It is expected to start the replacement training in early February next year, with classroom training as the main focus and no actual vehicle training.
According to reports, Taiwan purchased 108 M1A2T tanks from the US military. The first batch of 38 and 4 M88A2 armored relief vehicles arrived at Taipei Port by cargo ship on the 15th, and were transported in four batches by civilian heavy trailer trucks to the Taiwan Army Armored Corps Training Command in Hukou, Hsinchu on the 16th. They were transported between 2:00 and 5:00 on the same day, and the black waterproof cloth covering them was removed after dawn, and the tanks were moved to the shed factory.
Regarding the follow-up schedule, Taiwanese military personnel have stated that they are currently conducting a handover procedure with the US side for each tank one by one; The seed instructors who went to the United States for equipment training have returned to Taiwan and completed the drafting of relevant teaching materials. Therefore, the equipment training schedule remains unchanged and is scheduled to take place in early February next year.
Taiwanese military personnel have stated that the M1A2T tank is a new generation tank equipped with multiple modern battlefield essential functions such as a battle management system. Even armored officers and soldiers who are familiar with the performance of CM-11 and M60A3 tanks must undergo rigorous training in terms of tank performance, basic maintenance, basic performance, safety regulations, and other aspects, except for traditional gestures and flags. Therefore, the initial training will mainly be conducted in the classroom and not in real vehicles.
Regarding the deployment and use of the first batch of 38 M1A2T tanks by the Taiwan Army, Li Siping, the chief editor of Sharp Point Magazine, stated that taking the current deployment of the Taiwan Army's tank companies as an example, each company is equipped with 14 tanks and 2 relief vehicles. Therefore, the first batch can be divided into 2 companies (28 vehicles), and before the second batch arrives in Taiwan, the remaining 10 vehicles will be used as teaching vehicles, but the actual use still depends on the Taiwan military.
As for the construction progress of the exclusive M1A2T Hsinchu Kengzikou training ground, the Taiwan Army recently announced through a press release that in order to ensure uninterrupted training during the construction period, the plan is to renovate the Hsinchu Kengzikou training ground in a "zone, section, and time" manner. During this period, it can still be used for new tank shooting training.
