More than 40 gold veins have been discovered in Pingjiang, Hunan Province

On November 21st, the Hunan Geological Institute announced a significant breakthrough in the exploration of the Wangu Gold Mine in Pingjiang County, Hunan Province. After years of effort, the Hunan Geological Hazard Investigation and Monitoring Institute, a subsidiary of the Hunan Geological Institute, has discovered over 40 gold veins with a maximum gold grade of 138 grams/ton in the underground strata of over 2000 meters in the Wangu Gold Mine. The core area of the exploration has accumulated a total of 300.2 tons of gold resources. Experts believe that the scale of the Xiangdong Wangu gold deposit is super large, with a predicted future gold reserve of over 1000 tons at an underground depth of over 3000 meters, and a resource value of 600 billion yuan calculated based on current gold prices.

Liu Yongjun, Vice President of Hunan Geological Institute, introduced that in order to implement the national new round of breakthrough strategic action for mineral exploration, the Hunan Department of Natural Resources, Hunan Geological Institute, and Hunan Mineral Resources Group have supported the Hunan Geological Hazard Investigation and Monitoring Institute in deep and edge mineral exploration in the Wangu Gold Mine for many years. The Geological Hazard Investigation and Monitoring Institute of Hunan Province has applied the "Exploration Area Mineral Prediction Method System", using 3D geological modeling, controllable source audio magnetotelluric detection and other technologies, and has completed more than 150000 meters of drilling, achieving important results.

Chen Rulin, a mineral exploration expert with over 40 years of experience, told reporters that using new theories and technologies to explore more than 1500 meters underground in the Wangu gold mine, some areas drilled 55 holes, and 48 holes discovered gold mines, with a high ore discovery rate of 87.3%. In addition, gold deposits were also discovered in two 2000 meter boreholes.

Liu Yongjun said that based on the exploration results and mineralization information, the expert group predicts that the potential storage capacity of gold resources above 3000 meters underground in the Wangu gold field exceeds 1000 tons. Gold deposits were also discovered in the peripheral boreholes of the exploration core area, indicating a very promising exploration prospect.

Mao Jingwen, an academician of the CAE Member, a researcher of the Institute of Mineral Resources of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Tang Juxing, an academician of the CAE Member, a deputy chief geologist of the Institute of Mineral Resources of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, and other experts, after field visits, believe that the major breakthrough in the exploration of Wangu gold field is of great significance for achieving the goal and task of increasing gold reserves in a new round of national exploration breakthrough strategic action, and helping national economic and social development, especially resource security.
