Early experience
Xiao Huangqi is a visually impaired singer. He was born blind due to congenital cataract. At the age of 4, he became amblyopia after eye surgery. At the age of 15, he lost his sight again due to overuse of his eyes.
When he was in the fourth grade of a school for the blind, Xiao Huangqi began to learn judo. He has participated in International Judo competitions on behalf of Chinese Taipei for many times, and won bronze medal in Beijing Asian Paralympic Games in 1990 and seventh place in Atlanta Paralympic Games in 1996.
Since 1995, Xiao Huangqi and his friends have formed an orchestra called "omnidirectional", which is composed of two totally blind, two amblyopia and one discerning person. Xiao Huangqi is the head, lead singer and saxophone player of the all-round orchestra. He took the band around the blind children's schools and prisons in Taiwan, sending warm and bright hope to these stingy corners of the sun with his songs.
In 1999, Xiao Huangqi won the Top Ten Outstanding Youth Awards in Taiwan.
Acting experience
In December 2002, he released his first album "you are my eye". Ma Yingjiu and Jackie Chan were attracted by his talent and optimism. They both cheered for the new album's debut platform, but the album did not win.
In December 2004, Xiao Huangqi released his independent Minnan language creation album "black guitar", which was a hot sale. In November 2006, a new design was released.
In September 2006, Xiao Huangqi created his third Mandarin album our story.
In December 2007, he released his personal album "truth, love and song". The 12 songs of the whole album are all his own creation, and he composed music for Taiwan singer Huang Xiaohu's "not so simple".
In June 2008, he won two Golden Melody Awards: "best Taiwanese male singer" and "best Taiwanese singing album" for his album "true love song". In December of the same year, the Mandarin album I am Xiao Huangqi was released.
In June 2009, with the album I am Xiao Huangqi, I was shortlisted for the best Mandarin male singer award of the 20th Taiwan Golden Melody Award. In December of the same year, with the theme of "a new beginning and dreamers", he created his sixth album dreamers in Minnan language. The new song has elements of traditional music and modern music, exploring more possibilities.
On June 26, 2010, he won the "best Taiwanese male singer" of the 21st Golden Melody Award for his album "dreamer".
On January 18, 2011, he signed up with Warner records to release his Mandarin album lonely chords. In December of the same year, he released the Minnan language album "missing will surprise"
In June 2012, he won the Golden Melody Award for "best Taiwanese album" for "missing will be startled".
In January 2013, the Mandarin album Mr. Hao was released.
In May 2014, Minnan language album "flowers in Sheung Shui" was released, which won the best Taiwanese album award and the best Taiwanese male singer award at the 26th Taiwan Golden Melody Award in 2015.
