Qiji town was called Mao town in ancient times. In the Northern Wei Dynasty, there was an ancient ferry named Qiji ferry. The ferry was built with seven stone steps, so the village was named Qiji village. Later, it became a prosperous market. Qianlong of Qing Dynasty changed it into Qiji town in Jiangnan under the canal. It is located 26 kilometers northeast of Yanggu County, Liaocheng City, Shandong Province, at the junction of Yanggu County, Dong'e county and Dongchangfu District of Liaocheng City The river passes through the town with a total area of 73.39 square kilometers and a total cultivated land of 62500 mu. It governs 50 administrative villages and 72 natural villages with a total population of 39114 people (2017).

Historical evolution
Qiji town has a long history. According to the dictionary of ancient and modern place names in China, Qiji town was once named Mao town. In the early years of the Republic of China, Yanggu County was divided into 17 townships, with seven townships and nearby villages.
In 1929, it was divided into the Fourth District of Yanggu County.
In August 1947, Xuyi county was established at the junction of Yanggu and Dong'e, belonging to the seven level town;
In 1949, the organizational system of Xuyi county was abolished, and the seven level town and its villages still belonged to Yanggu, the Fourth District of Yanggu County;

In 1971, Hu Lou and some villages of Houwang commune, originally belonging to the seventh level District, were divided into Anle town and Guotun commune respectively. Some villages of Qiji, langwan, Sanhe, Xijin commune and Houwang commune were merged into the seventh level people's commune;
In 1984, Liaocheng district was divided into government and community, and the seven level people's commune was changed into seven level town.
Urban construction

Qiji Town, Hecheng and Zhangqiu are called Liaocheng Yanggu canal town.
