Yingze District Yingze District belongs to Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. It is the central city, political, economic, cultural, transportation, media, communication and financial center of Taiyuan city. It is the main location of Taiyuan ancient city in song, yuan and Ming Dynasties. Its name comes from Yingze gate, one of the ancient city gates after the expansion of Ming Dynasty.
Yingze District is located in the east of Fenhe River in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, in the middle of the urban area, adjacent to Yuci district and Shouyang County of Jinzhong City in the East, facing Wanbailin District across Fenhe River in the west, Xiaodian District in the South and Xinghualing District in the north, with a total area of 117 square kilometers, of which the built-up area is 22 square kilometers, with a total population of more than 650000.

History of construction
The origin of the name
Yingze District is named after the South Gate of Taiyuan ancient city, Yingze gate (the ancient city of Taiyuan has eight gates, Yichun, Yinghui, Fucheng, Zhenwu, Chengen, Yingze, Gongji and Zhenyuan, which respectively imply the East, West, South and North meanings).
Historical evolution
It was built in 1376 when Taiyuan city was expanded.
Before the establishment of Taiyuan in 1927, the Nancheng area belonged to Yangqu county and Taiyuan county respectively.
In 1945, Taiyuan was divided into eight inner districts and eight outer districts with the city as the boundary. The districts were under the jurisdiction of inner districts 1, 2, 3, 8 and outer districts 1 and 2.
On May 27, 1949, the original 16 districts (inner and outer eight districts) were merged into eight districts. Nancheng district belongs to the first, second, fifth and sixth districts.
On June 4, 1954, the urban areas of Taiyuan city were named after the regional location, so the first district was named Nancheng District of Taiyuan City, which has jurisdiction over 13 administrative streets. The district government is located at No. 12 of huoniushi (now No. 23 building on the east side of the middle section of Jiefang Road).
In 1956, the district government was renamed the District People's Committee.
In 1958, the jurisdiction of Di village in the suburbs was put under the jurisdiction of Nancheng district. On November 12 of the same year, the district office moved to No. 19, Liuxiang South Road.
On June 20, 1960, the people's Committee of Nancheng district was abolished and two urban people's communes, Liuxiang and Shuangta, were established.
On May 18, 1961, the city people's commune was abolished and the people's Committee of Nancheng district was restored.
On September 7, 1969, the Revolutionary Committee of Nancheng district was established. At the same time, the people's Committee of Nancheng District stopped exercising its functions and powers.
On September 1, 1980, the people's Government of Nancheng district was elected by the first session of the Seventh People's Congress of the District, and the functions and powers of the Revolutionary Committee of Nancheng district were terminated.
In December 1994, the district government moved to 15 mianhuaxiang.
In 1996, it has jurisdiction over 9 streets and 334 communities including Liuxiang, Confucian temple, Miaoqian, Yingze, Qiaodong, Shuangta, Wucheng, Beiying and laojunying.
On May 8, 1997, the State Council approved the abolition of Nancheng District, Beicheng District, Hexi District, Nanjiao district and Beijiao District of Taiyuan city and the establishment of Xiaodian District, Yingze District, Xinghualing District, Jiancaoping District, Wanbailin District and Jinyuan District of Taiyuan city. Yingze District governs six streets of Yingze, Qiaodong, Confucian temple, Liuxiang, old military camp and miaojian in the former Nancheng District, and two townships of Mengjiajing and Haozhuang (excluding Di Village) in the former southern suburb.
