In the second year of Jin Xingding (1218), Dongming County of Kaifeng Prefecture was transferred to the hometown of wanting county. Dongming County was moved to Dongming market town (now Dongming County) on the North Bank of the Yellow River. The old Dongming County, 10 kilometers north of Lankao County in Henan Province, was abandoned as tonganpu. This is the beginning of Dongming County governance in Shandong Province. In the third year of Hongzhi of Ming Dynasty (1490), the county government was moved to the present county site.
Dongming county is rich in watermelon, wheat, corn, soybeans and so on. It is a national commodity grain base county, an advanced plain greening county and the only county-level "hometown of watermelon in China". Dongming county is located in the hinterland of Zhongyuan Oilfield, rich in oil and natural gas, is an important petrochemical base in Shandong Province. Xinshi railway runs through the east-west, national highway 106 and north-south, Donglan highway connects Luyu, Ridong Expressway connects with Changji Expressway in the east of the county, and rinan Expressway passes along the border.
Dongming county is the famous hometown of watermelon, martial arts, calligraphy and longevity in Shandong Province. In October 2018, it won the national rural primary, secondary and tertiary industry integration development pilot zone.
History of construction
In the Qin Dynasty, the land is donghun. It belongs to Yangwu County of Sanchuan county.
In the first year of Shou in the Han Dynasty (140 BC), donghun county was set up in Huju. Wang Mang changed donghun to Dongming in the first year of the founding of the people's Republic of China. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Dongming was changed into donghun county. It belongs to Chenliu County of Yanzhou.
In 223, donghun county was reduced to a town and merged into waihuang county and Jiyang County.
In the first year of Qiande of Song Dynasty (963), Dongming town was restored to Dongming County, belonging to Kaifeng Prefecture on Jingji road.
In the second year of Jin Xingding (1218), Dongming county changed its jurisdiction over beiyuangou County, the former place of the Yellow River.
In the early Yuan Dynasty, it belonged to Caozhou, Nanjing Road, and later to Kaizhou, Daming Road, Zhongshu province.
In 1377, the county government was abolished, belonging to Kaizhou and Changyuan respectively. In the third year of Hongzhi (1490), Dongming County was set up, belonging to the Daming mansion of the North Road minister.
In the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Daming Prefecture of Zhili Province.

In 1942, the 22nd Department of the border region of Hebei, Shandong and Henan was renamed the 20th special department of the border region of Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan, which belonged to the Dongming Dynasty.
In 1944, Dongming County was withdrawn, the South was assigned to kaocheng, and the north to Heze county.

In February 1946, the Tenth Special Office of Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan was changed into the office of the inspector general of the fifth administrative region of Hebei, Shandong and Henan, under the jurisdiction of Dongming County. In August 1947, Dongyuan County was withdrawn and its jurisdiction was merged into Dongming. Yonghua District of Dongming County was assigned to Nanhua County.
In May 1949, Nanhua County was withdrawn and Yonghua District returned to Dongming County, which is a special office of Heze in Pingyuan province. In October, it belongs to Heze District of Pingyuan province.
In 1952, Pingyuan province was abolished and transferred to Zhengzhou Special District of Henan Province.

In April 1963, it was transferred to Heze District of Shandong Province.
In 1967, Heze district was renamed Heze area, and Dongming County was under its jurisdiction.

Dongming bedrock belongs to Jurassic strata, quaternary super thick, covering a thickness of more than 4 meters. The surface layer is mainly composed of clay and sandy soil.
