[plant morphology] Pittosporum formosana
Shrubs or trees, 1-6 m high, all glabrous. Branchlets subwhorled. The leaves are simple, alternate, often gathered at the end of branches, thin leathery, obovate to oblanceolate, 5-10 cm long and 1.7-3.5 cm wide, apex acuminate, base cuneate, entire or microwavy. Terminal loose corymb with pale yellow flowers; pedicel ca. 1 cm or slightly long; sepals 5, ovate, ca. 2.5 mm long; petals 5; calyx 8-10 mm long; stamens 5, anthers 2-locular, longitudinally lobed; carpels 3, ovary superior, densely short hairy, stigma undivided. Capsule subellipsoid, ca. 1. 5 cm long, 3-valved, thin pericarp. The seed is covered with a mucinous orange red aril.
It grows under the forest by the stream, beside the rock and in the mixed forest on the hillside. It is distributed in Sichuan, Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi, Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Henan, etc.
