[chemical constituents] Rhizoma Corydalis contains tetrahydropalmatine, proto opioid alkaloid, trochondrine, chamaecarpine and other alkaloids.
[pharmacological action] for the pharmacology of tetrahydropalmatine, please refer to "Corydalis". The so-called "tetanic syncope" like phenomenon can be produced in animals by pithecine. The animals show numbness and drowsiness. If their muscles are stiff, they can be kept in this position if they change their position at will. This may be the result of acting on the basal ganglia (different from tremor paralysis), which can be antagonized by phenylpropamine. It can dilate blood vessels, eliminate vasoconstrictive reflex, antagonize adrenaline and methacholine, inhibit the movement of isolated small intestine, excite guinea pig and rabbit uterus, and has no effect on hemagglutination. In the early years, it was reported that it can be used for tremor paralysis, chorea, brain diseases, inner ear vertigo and vestibular nystagmus; it is also similar to papaverine and has anti adrenaline effect.
