[chemical constituents] the whole herb contains rutin, quercetin and caffeic acid. It also contains light sensitive substances.
The seedlings contained flavonoids such as orientin, isoorientin, Vitexin, soapgrass, rutin, quercetin, cyanidin, and anthocyanin.
[pharmacological action] rutin has vitamin P-like activity. Rutin from different parts of plants has the effect of killing intestinal round worm in vitro. There is no anthraquinone in the root. The whole plant, especially the flower, contains red lustrous pigment (similar to Hypericum perforatum).
