[plant morphology] Mei Hua Cao
Herbs perennial, up to 50 cm tall. The basal leaves are tufted, ovoid to heart-shaped, 1-3cm long and 1.5-3.5cm wide, apex pointed, base heart-shaped, entire, petiole long; the middle part of the flower stem has one leaf, sessile, base embracing, the same shape as the basal leaf. The flowers are single, terminal, white to light yellow, 2-3.5cm in diameter, similar to plum blossom; sepals 5, long elliptic; petals 5, oval; stamens 5, staminodes with upper and middle mitosis, lobes with capitate glands at the apex; styles short, apex 4-lobed. Capsule ovoid, upper 4-lobed. The seeds are numerous.
It grows on hillside, forest edge, gully and grassland. Distribution of northeast and Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Inner Mongolia and other places.

[chemical constituents] the whole herb contains kaempferol, rutin and Hyperoside. The stem contained glucoside of quercetin. The content of alkaloids in roots was 0.085-0.09%.
Bitter and cool.
Functions and indications: clearing heat, cooling blood, detumescence and detoxification. Treatment of jaundice hepatitis, vasculitis, carbuncle swelling poison.
