Support Yuan Shao
Liu Dai made peace with Yuan Shao and Gongsun Zan. Yuan Shao let his family live in Liu Dai's house. Gongsun Zan also sent his subordinates to work as fan Fang and led the army to help Liu Dai. After that, there was a conflict between Yuan Shao and Gongsun Zan. After Gongsun Zan defeated Yuan Shao's army, he asked Liu Dai to cut off contact with Yuan Shao, and said to fan Fang, "if Liu Dai doesn't drive Yuan Shao's family away, you will lead the army back. When I kill Yuan Shao, I will attack Liu Dai. " Liu Dai can't make up his mind about this for days. Wang Yu tells Liu Dai that it's better to ask Cheng Yu. So Liu Dai summoned Cheng Yu and asked him for advice. Cheng Yu persuaded Liu Dai to help Yuan Shao. Liu Dai listened to his advice. Sure enough, Gongsun Zan was defeated by Yuan Shao soon after.
Died in Yanzhou
In the third year of Chuping (192), the yellow scarf army of Qingzhou attacked Yanzhou. Liu Dai, the governor of Yanzhou, planned to send troops to fight against it. Bao Xin dissuaded: "at present, there are millions of bandits. The people are terrified and shocked, and the soldiers have no fighting spirit. They can't resist. I see that the bandits and their families are mixed up, and there are no supplies in them. They just make a living by plundering. Today's countermeasures are as follows: let the troops conserve their energy, first take firm measures, and the thieves can't fight, and they can't attack. When their momentum is low, they can defeat them by selecting elite soldiers. " Liu Dai didn't take Bao Xin's advice and insisted on going to war. As a result, he was defeated and killed.

In the popular romance of the Three Kingdoms written by Jiajing, there are two Liu Dai with the same name, the same word and different native place, namely Liu Dai from Muping, Donglai, the governor of Yanzhou, and Liu Dai from Shipei, the commander of Sikong. When Mao criticized the romance of the Three Kingdoms, he simply deleted the murder of Liu Dai in Muping of Donglai, and then tied the affair of Liu Dai in peiguo to him, which became the affair of Liu Dai, the governor of Yanzhou. Li Guosi killed fan Hou, the second volume of the popular romance of the Three Kingdoms written by Jia Jing, wrote: "Qingzhou yellow scarf is up again, gathering millions of people and different leaders to kill Yanzhou Mu Liu Dai." Later, Mao's criticism of the romance of the Three Kingdoms deleted the story of Liu Dai's death in Yanzhou. In the first year of Chuping, Liu Dai crusaded against Dong Zhuo. When Liu Dai was the fourth town of the eighteen road princes, he called it "filial piety and benevolence, condescending to the scholars". Later, he borrowed grain from Qiaomao, but Qiaomao didn't. Liu Dai was angry and killed him. He collected all his troops. Later, Cao Cao took Yanzhou, Liu Dai descended to Cao, and Cao Cao used it as a partisan general. Later, Sikong Cao ordered him to be the former army, and Wang Zhong led 50000 troops with the latter army to attack Xuzhou under the banner of Cao Cao. Captured by Zhang feisheng, Liu Bei releases him and Wang Zhong. After returning to Xudu, he was dethroned by Cao Cao.
